How good is Valium for anxiety and as a muscle relaxer?

My doc is prescribing Valium for me to get rid of the feeling of a lump in my throat. I was just wondering how well it would work.

Chosen Answer:

That lump in your throat isn’t about muscles – it’s about anxiety. I used to get that sort of thing all the time and the docs prescribed valium for me too. It works pretty well at helping alleviate your stress. Be sure to avoid taking it during the day until you become more accustomed to it, and definitely don’t drive until you’re completely comfortable with it. Part of what makes us good drivers is our ability to react to stressful situations (i.e. oncoming traffic, accidents, stupid pedestrians), so be particularly cautious about driving.

My doctor gave me Valium as a muscle relaxer. I don’t think it works very well.

It will work, but it will also make you really tired. Like REALLY tired, so be careful, and dont take more thatn prescribed. Nothing worse than passing out while driving down the road. And the thing is with valium, you dont get tired then start to doze off, you just fall asleep without feeling tired and bam you are out. Its kinda scary.
