Are there any medications like valium that are available over the counter?
Is there any medication similar to VALIUM that is available over the counter????
I usually need it before I go on the plane, or experience something like Parasailing to calm myself down. Everyone mentions Kava Kava and St. John’s Wort….I think those are more anti-depressants? Correct?
Any information/medications you know o but f? Thank you.

5HTP would be a good natural anti-depressant. But everyone telling you about Kava Kava is spot on the nose. It’s natural valium. I keep it at work with me for bad days (I’m a nurse in a juvenile detention facility), and it calms me right down. Pick up a bottle and try it before your next nerve wracking situation. By the way, parasailing? Isn’t that, like, voluntary? Why would you purposefully enter a situation you know will upset you? If you’re doing it for the adrenaline rush, then DON’T take Kava Kava. You’ll be too relaxed to enjoy the rush!

Benadryl, a common antihistimine can calm you down but it also likely to put you to sleep.

Kava Kava CAN be used for anxiety. Valerian is another herbal medicine. One caveat about herbal medicines, make sure that your liver is functioning normally (performed w/single, simple blood test) before you embark on these herbals because several of them can effect your liver function.

In regard to 5-HTP for anxiety . . . there have been studies that say that it can INCREASE anxiety in about half the patients that were studied!
You can read more about 5-HTP here: http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/psychology/health_psychology/5htp_myth.htm
Good luck to you! : )
