How can I find a doctor in South Florida liberal enough to prescribe Valium?
The meds I’ve taken –Zoloft, Neurontin, Seroquel, Lamictal — do not really help bipolar and severe anxiety. Valium has worked in the past…
Chosen Answer:
I believe ativan is a safer drug. Maybe you have overdosed before so they don’t want to give you that? You can’t really overdose on ativan (I know, I tried).
Valium only helps in the short term. After that, it is only a placebo. And it’s very addictive – when you stop taking it, you get rebound anxiety and restless legs and stuff.
Have you tried lithium? Abilify? Combos? Try going to bipolarworld.net and click on ask the doctor. The Dr. Phelp’s guy has a lot of help for people with bipolar, maybe you will find something there.
Frankly, I just drink a beer when I am really anxious, and then go soak in a hot bath and play new age or piano music on a boombox. I also do art, or sit down at the piano. The creative aspect of painting or crafting or playing an instrument is very soothing and requires intense concentration. I do distracting, keep busy activities, also. I have really bad bipolar, and it doesn’t respond well to drugs either, and I’ve probably tried more of them than you (maybe you were summarizing, tho!)
Good luck to you, I hope you find an answer! If you go to a new doc and ask right out for valium, they will be suspicious and think you are doctor shopping because you are an addict. Many people are – I knew a guy who stole a docs prescription pad to get more xanax, and it worked until the pharmacy got suspicious. Then he had ,000 in legal bills. He was a nice guy – never had trouble like that before. He just happened to get addicted to a drug he did need for cluster headaches, then lost his judgment altogether.

Well they would prescribe it they think you needed it… they aren’t going to just give it to you because you say it works for you… produce some medical records that indicate you have actually been prescribed it and they may consider it.
