i suffer anxiety and depression Valium works should i continue to take it or ask doctor for what?
i have been on valium for 20 years.i stoped taking them for the last year and i am suffering anxiety attacks, deep depression worry, just really down.i will see a new doctor in a few days.i wonder if the same drug is better or is there a better, new one?
Chosen Answer:
I’m not sure what kind of a doctor would allow you to take valium for so long because of its addictive qualities.
I personally take Cymbalta for the depression and klonopin for the anxiety because it’s longer lasting and less addictive.

SSRIs help with anxiety and depression. Valium, I think, can cause/add to depression for some. I’d be open to trying some of the newer meds.

Valium is a benzodiazapine. They often, over a long period of use will cause the very symptoms they were given to correct and are highly addictive. There are tons of others meds out there to explore with your doctor. Most doctors will switch your meds and want you to begin right away. In addiction and recovert counseling we suggest a break. Between meds to give your body and mind a breather from chemicals and to discuss this gap of time with your doctor.

Valium is extremely addictive and what you are experiencing is withdrawl. Thank God your getting a different doc. Good grief, I can’t believ they still prescribe that stuff. You need to be on anti-depressant/anti anxiety meds that are not addictive to be able to step off gradually.
Lorazapam works well for anxiety and is not nearly as addictive. They may want to try you on some combination of anti depressant and anti anxiety. Different people tolerate different anti depressants and meds differently. So while Paxil works wonders for one person, it may not work at all for someone else. Lexapro or Celexa works great for some people. Ask about side effects, and make sure they don’t prescribe an anti-depressant like Wellbutrin that tends to increase anxiety. I think Effexor is one that is suppose to be good for depression and anxiety.

You need to talk to your Doctor. How come you can get Valium on repeat prescription without talking to your doctor.

Hello. I know from clients and myself as well that Valium is a good drug. If you have stayed on the same dosage for the last 20 years than they might be the best for you. There are alot of other medication out as well that you could try but you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. If you do not see other medications working they will not work as you have that drummed into your head if you know what i mean. Go to the doctor open minded and just ask the doctor what he/she thinks you should do. Explain everything and be really open and honest. I hope this helps you out alot. Take care and keep your chin up.

Stay off Valium it’s old school and used for for other things; you need to get an ant-depressant and anxiety meds. There are many good ones out there for the problems we have. I take Wellbutrin and have been on xanax for years. Alot of people take Ativan to for anxiety it just didn’t help me much.
Good Luck
