What’s the difference between anxiety and actual nausea?

I feel a little bit nauseous, but I’m not sure whether or not it’s because I’m an emetophobic and I’m creating these symptoms in myself or whether I actually may be coming on with something. So what’s the difference between sick or food poisoned nausea and anxiety nausea? (ways to identify between the two)

Chosen Answer:

I have social anxiety disorder, so hopefully I can answer your question.

Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting, so anxiety and nausea in your case are linked. However, I think your emetophobia wouldn’t be brought on unless you genuinly felt ill, which would then get you stuck in a cycle. That’s what I think is happening.

Anxiety on it’s own, however, is different. Yes, it can make you feel sick, but there are reasons for it and it doesn’t just come on randomly, even though the reasons aren’t always clear. It can happen if something negative has happened recently, you’re worrying about something, you’ve been scared, etc. Anxiety causes you to worry about things in the past, present and future to the extreme.

The difference is in the cause, how you feel might be similar, but but food poison nausea usually doesnt last long
