How does valium work?

I have to draw a diagram illustrating how valium and hallucinogenic drugs work, but I have no clue where to even start. What sort of picture could I draw?

Ideas are much appreciated.

Chosen Answer:

Valium (diazepam) is not a psychedelic drug. It is a benzodiazepine, which binds and activates the GABA-A receptor. GABA (Gamma-AminoButyric Acid) is a common inhibitory neurotransmitter, and benzodiazepines mimic the activity of GABA (i.e., they are GABA agonists).
