Anxiety attack problems and ways to help relax?
My daughter is 12 and she has very bad anxiety problems, so bad that we even had to go to the hospital. They said she was having anxiety attacks. Im getting a counsler, but she just feels like she is going to stop breatheing and that she is not getting enough air,but its just her anxiety. But she is scared to go to sleep , just like what should i do?
Chosen Answer:
Anxiety attacks are very terrifying, i know, i have them quite often. When I have mine, I take deep breaths, close my eyes, and lay down. I also listen to music. it always clams me down! good luck.

U should consider finding a good Yoga or Tai Chi instructor. Yoga involves stretching, breathing, and meditaion exercises that can her calm her down. Tai Chi is a martial art that has many health benefits and help build up her self esteem. If she is interested in it u should find a qualified instructor to teach her. If she is nervous about going to classes the often offer private classes. Those are 2 choices that are drug free and can help change her life. Good luck

this would be a very troublesome health risk, especially for a 12 year old! always make sure she is in a comfortable enviroment away from overstimulating objects that could be progressing her anxiety to a state where she stops breathing. something is mentaly freakin her out, if its really bad , id suggest drugs, more for the sleeping as a life safety risk.

Oh my gosh I thought you were my mom for a second. Same thing happened to me. My mom took me to the hospital when I was 17 because of a really bad anxiety attack– shut down where I couldn’t analyze info slash think and couldn’t sleep (talked to someone at the hospital who tried to figure out what was causing the anxiety but didn’t really help). Anxiety attacks from ages 12-18ish and now I just get really scared and anxious but without the anxiety attacks.
There are so many things i want to say/explain I don’t know where to start. It sounds like you’re looking for immediate help, so I would just give her a hug, hold her, let her know she’s loved and that everything’s going to be okay (that’s what I really needed when scared). When you have a little time, think of a plan to help her CONFRONT HER FEARS and after she confronts them (and nothing bad happens) make sure she sees this and truly understands it. That’s one of the things that has helped me with immediate anxiety, but it can be hard to find a way to do this so may take time to think of a plan.
hmm…
believing in God helped, and learning how He loves you no matter what
12 step alcohol anonymous/alateen program helped (probably too young for this)
HEART (CHAKRA- CENTERED) YOGA
and laughter yoga. Laughter yoga is what’s drastically bringing me out of my anxiety and fears right now and I feel like if I keep doing this, my irrational anxiety will be gone.
laughangeles.com is a good website to learn about this.
I feel like I could help you with this more, please e-mail me if you have any other questions.

Take her to see a psychiatrist. They can prescribe her medication. I used to have horrible anxiety, so my doctor prescribed Paxil. They also suggested for me to see a psychologist for counseling. After 3 months, I stopped having panic attacks and I have little anxiety.
Good luck and I hope everything goes well.
P.S. My psychologist gave me a tip to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth during a panic attack.
