What is a good generic medication for anxiety and depression?
I have been taking Lexapro for three years now, and it does help tremendously, however, I can’t afford 0.00 every month. I need the medication more because of the anxiety, so prozac or zoloft isn’t exactly what I’m looking for. I want a medication that I can get a generic for because .00 or .00 looks a lot better than what I’ve been paying.
Chosen Answer:
Ask your MD to write a prescription for generic Celexa (Citalopram). Celexa is vitually the same as Lexapro.

Only a doctor can tell you whether or no you should change meds. Why not ask your physician if he/she can prescribe Lexapro as a generic (Lexapro has been out long enough that a generic should exist….)?

There is three out there that have generic brands that I have tried. Xanax, Klonopin and Valium. Each are for anxiety. I tried Lexapro as well because it was for anxiety/depression and I need mine more for anxiety as you stated.
I know what you mean about the costs, I was on Seroquel two months ago and my co-pay was $75.00.
EDIT: Most doctors will say generic if there is one, to the post above and no there is not one for Lexapro.
You can ask your doctor for samples, mine gave me a months supply of Lexapro each time I visited him when I took the medication. (just a thought) tell him/her the cost.

I’m with Halo. I take Citalopram (40mg) and it’s on the $4 plan at Walmart. I used to be on Lexapro when I had insurance, but switched when I lost my coverage. My mom takes xanax for anxiety. I think she pays about $15 at Walmart, but it’s still a lot better than $110.

I take Trazodone, money is of no object to me, but apprently its like $4 in Walmart. I don’t know because I’m in the UK but that’s what I heard from Americans online.
It’s good for sleep and depression, which is why I take it, it’s also used for anxiety.
The only thing is, it can make you feel a little hungover.
