Valium is very good for anxiety and will relax you much the same as xanax. Yes it will help you sleep if you take one about half hour before going to bed.

Valium is a long acting Benzo and it will stay in your body for a couple days, but stop working after about 10 hours (it just depends on the person).

Talk to your doctor instead of assuming something someone told you is correct.
